A Commitment to Safeguard Africa’s Wild Spaces for Generations to Come

At the heart of the Molori Private Collection lies a deep, long-standing commitment to protecting Africa’s wildlife and wilderness. Guided by the vision of the Ichikowitz family and supported through both lodge operations and the Ichikowitz Family Foundation, we play an active role in conservation efforts across South Africa and the continent. From hands-on wildlife protection initiatives to guest experiences that directly support critical conservation work, we strive to ensure that Africa’s most vulnerable species and wild spaces are safeguarded for generations to come.

Madikwe Game Reserve

Wild Dog Experience

Madikwe Game Reserve is home to the endangered wild dog, the second most endangered carnivore in Africa after the Ethiopian wolf. There are fewer than 6000 remaining in Africa, and the current population of wild dogs in South Africa is estimated at less than 400. The wild dog experience in Madikwe Game Reserve and Mana Pools National Park, shares with guests the intensive push to conserve and protect these amazing animals for future generations. Guests spend an early morning tracking down  wild dog packs and learn about their strictly defined social hierarchy, the bonds between members and their cooperative hunting techniques.

Ichikowitz Family Foundation

Anti-Poaching

The Ichikowitz Family Foundation focuses heavily on anti-poaching initiatives across Africa, including close collaboration with Madikwe’s Provincial Park and its Counter Poaching Unit. It has strengthened ranger effectiveness through comprehensive training and the provision of full field combat kits, advanced communication tools, and cutting-edge sighting technology. It has also supported successful rhino-notching programmes and contributed vital equipment and training to SANParks, donating both a Seeker MKII surveillance aircraft and a specially configured GAZELLE helicopter to bolster aerial anti-poaching operations. The  guides at both Molori properties are available for immediate dispatch should any poaching incidents occur.

Rhino Tagging

Molori Safari is involved in rhino conservation efforts and guests can, by arrangement, be part of an extraordinary hands-on rhino tagging experience – involving the notching, DNA sampling and micro chipping of the rhino’s horns. This experience includes  work on the ground with the vet and ecologist, in close proximity to the sedated rhino. The rhino tagging conservation experience is charged as a separate cost and should be arranged in advance. Guests of all ages can participate, with a high level of parental monitoring required for younger children.
